12 Projects of Christmas 2024 - Day 4 - Sparkling Skates

Welcome to day four of our highly-popular 12 Projects of Christmas series! Our fourth instalment, by the talented Christine, is one that you can really have fun with as it includes lots of techniques and steps. Christine has kept to a cool, icy colour scheme for this creation but it would also look equally as fabulous if you prefer to switch out the colours to a more traditional palette. Read on for full instructions on how to make this beautiful festive creation.

As with every tutorial in this series, we've created FREE project sheets and you will find the link to today's PDF download sheet at the bottom of the instructions below.
What you'll need:

      How to make:

1 Trim the silver mirror card to 7¾” square and affix to the card blank using foam pads. Trim a sheet of Winter Wonderland foiled paper to 7½” square, edge with Crystal Crush Sparkelicious glitter, and attach to the card front using dries-clear adhesive.

2 Trim a sheet of White Crystal pearl card to 7¼” square and emboss using the Blizzard embossing folder. Using dries-clear adhesive, edge with Silver Crystal Sparkelicious glitter and affix to the card front using foam pads.

3 Affix the double-sided adhesive sheet to white cardstock and die-cut using the largest Snowflake Oval die. Using the second-largest die, cut a panel from White Crystal pearl card, then affix to the first layer after removing the protective backing from the self-adhesive sheet. Infill with Winter Frost Sparkelicious glitter and affix to the card front using foam pads.

4 Die-cut patterned paper from the Winter Wonderland paper pad using the ninth-largest die from the Oval nesting dies set and then Crystal White pearl card using the eleventh-largest die from the same set. Edge both with Crystal Crush Sparkelicious glitter and matt and layer onto the card front using foam pads.

5 Die-cut two Winter Wonderland Ice Skates and two ice skate trims from white cardstock. Using the dries-clear adhesive, cover the solid part of each boot with Winter Frost Sparkelicious glitter, the heels with Silver Frost and the blades with Silver Crystal. Thread silver twine through the lace holes on the boots and secure on the reverse.

6 Cut two pieces of white faux fur, affix to the die-cut ice skate trims and attach to the top of each boot using glue gel. Add touches of dries-clear adhesive to the fur trim and sprinkle with Winter Wonderland Sparkelicious glitter. Die-cut two bows from the same die set, affix a self-adhesive sparkle to the centre of each bow and affix to the ice skates using dries-clear adhesive. Attach the ice skates to the centre of the card, as shown, using 3D glue gel.

7 Fussy cut four berry branches and four leafy branches from the Festive Foliage foiled acetate. Add Silver Crystal Sparkelicious glitter to the reverse of the berries and Crystal Crush to the reverse of the leaves using dries-clear adhesive, then set aside to dry.

8 Die-cut four large and four medium Wonderland Poinsettias from the Snowflake Flurry vellum. Add dots of dries-clear adhesive to the petals and sprinkle with Frosty Christmas Sparkelicious glitter. Layer up the flowers, as shown, using 3D glue gel and add a Sparkler to the centre of each flower. Affix to the card front, as shown. Arrange the foiled and glittered foliage around the flowers and affix using 3D glue gel.

9 Stamp the sentiment from the Winter Wonderland Tree Border die and stamp set onto Crystal White pearl card using clear ink. Cover with Polished Silver Super Fine embossing powder and heat set. Edge with Crystal Crush Sparkelicious glitter, then matt and layer onto silver mirror card and affix to the top left corner of the card front using foam pads. Add snowflake sequins around the ice skates to finish.
